History

History of the POLYPLASTIC Group is inseparable from the history of the Russian plastics industry. POLYPLASTIC — is the largest manufacturer of thermoplastic composites, which supplies the Russian market with a wide range of special materials based on PP, PA6, PA66, PBT, PVC, and the main aim of these materials is providing reliable manufactured plastic articles fully adapted to the requirements of the industries in which these materials will be applied.

The POLYPLASTIC has been constantly expanding its product range throughout all its history period. To date, two plants, located in Moscow and Saratov, produce about 250 grades of thermoplastic composites with the overall annual compounding volume accounting for 58 KT. Such a wide product range is the result of long-term work of the company, which has reasonably gained a reputation of a reliable partner not only in Russia but also in neighboring markets of CIS and EU countries.

Here you can find information about the history of our company running up to the present days of the POLYPLASTIC Group Engineering Plastics Division. We offer high-quality materials for your business. Take a right choice.

1991
  • The story of the future Russian leader in manufacturing polymer composite materials began with the registration on August 19, 1991 of a small plastic processing company under the name of R&D Enterprise Polyplastic with a staff of only 15 employees;
  • The founders were M. I. Gorilovsky, A. V. Turevsky, and N. Yu. Kornoukhov;
  • While the Russia’s industry of that time was practically damaged, the management of the company, after careful analysis and consultation with experts, took a risky but far-sighted decision — to organize its own production of polymer composite materials in a wide range of consumer properties that would face the existing demand of automotive and other industries;
  • Polyamide 6 and polypropylene were chosen as a polymer matrix, being the most readily available domestic raw materials.
1992
  • The first steps in production development were successful: first 240 tonnes of composites were produced as a result of hard work of the whole team, using temporarily the rented equipment of Kuskovsky Plastics Plant and Shevchenkovsky Plastics Plant;
  • Since then a steady increase in production output began, continuing up to this day, which can be demonstrated by the diagram of output growth of engineering composites of POLYPLASTIC Group;
  • Start-up of the close cooperation with partners — industrial enterprises of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Baltic states. The first export deal was committed.
1994
  • The first own manufacturing line based on the twin-screw ICMA extruder having a capacity of 3,000 T/year was put into operation in Moscow, Ochakovo.
    V. A. Tochin was appointed an Executive Director of the company;
  • The company management developed a plan of manufacturing products according the own original formulations and creating a wide range of engineering composite materials that could be applied for replacement of steel, nonferrous metals, thermosets and other construction materials;
  • The first trademarks were registered: ARMLEN® (compositions based on polypropylene) and ARMAMID® (compositions based on polyamide-6), followed by issuing the full set of standards and specifications. The product range accounted for 12 glass reinforced and mineral filled grades;
  • Cooperation with Russia’s largest automotive manufacturers started — Gorky (GAZ) and Volzhsky (VAZ) Automobile Plants, and others. The company went on developing and helped many local automotive enterprises to survive.
1995
  • The R&D Center was formed as a special department, equipped with the most advanced instrumentation for plastic research, providing not only studying the properties and quality control of raw materials, but used also for developing new brands of composites, since an affection for innovation was always one of the key features of the company;
  • To overcome more quickly the post-crisis phenomena, an Automobile Dealership was launched which sold 200 cars during the first year of its work, and more than 10 thousand cars afterwards. Thus, the company gained unequivocal advantages over its competitors.
1997
  • The company’s growth continued. The second manufacturing department was built and put in operation. The manufacturing line comprised twin-screw extruder of ZSK-70 Werner&Pfleiderer type, which made it possible to increase the output of composites up to 70%.
1998
  • The company was forced to reduce significantly the production because of the financial crisis (default). But the drop was overcome due to the prompt action of the commercial service guided by A. N. Menshov and coordinated work of the whole team, the output was restored by the end of the year.
1999
  • The ICMA extruder was replaced by a more powerful automated computer-controlled Mega-Compounder of Krupp Werner&Pfleiderer for increasing the capacity level;
  • The Quality System was developed and introduced to ensure high product quality that had always been a priority trend of the company. The system was certified according ISO 9001-96, the 2008 version is in operation at the present time.
2000
  • The most important event for the successful development of the company occurred — a union with the former serious competitor — JSC TECHNOPOL, thus the company’s share on the market of engineering plastics was significantly increased. M. L. Katsevman was appointed as a Research and Development Director;
  • The product range was expanded. The company started to produce composite materials based on other polymer types: polyamide-66 (Tehnamid A) and polybutylene terephthalate (Tehnoter).
2001
  • The company celebrated a 10-year milestone in its history, continuing the successful development. The output of polymer composite materials production was increased by almost 55-fold compared to the initial period, and reached 13,290 tonnes;
  • The company employed 200 people and produced over 200 grades of composite materials for various applications;
  • The great success achieved in the automotive industry was clearly demonstrated by a concept car Vector created from the composite grades produced in the first decade of company work, the typical automobile parts and components were exposed on a specially designed steel frame. It was successfully exhibited at Plastic Industry Show 2001, and then transferred to the Polytechnical Museum, where it’s still on permanent display in the section devoted to chemical industry.
2003
  • A new compounding line with a capacity of 5,000 T/year was launched in Togliatti in cooperation with Volgaplast — an enterprise of JSC KuibyshevAzot, with the aim of increasing production capacity and further strengthening the market share.
2004
  • A new manufacturing department of composite materials with a capacity of over 8,000 T/year, equipped with modern compounding facilities — two extrusion lines of Berstorff (Germany) was launched. The application areas of the composites were diversified: composites were adapted for application in railway transport, engineering, electronics, household appliances, and other industries.
2006
  • Start of the renovation of manufacturing lines: the equipment of Ochakovo department was essentially modernized, the compounding facilities were completely replaced, a new compounding line was installed;
  • The company took up the leading position in the Russian market of engineering thermoplastics — 40% of total shipments, lingering to this day. More than 300 different grades of composites were produced.
2008
  • The company succeeded in developing the advanced product range: a wide range of grades worked out within two years (2006-2008) allowed to enter the international level: the company became a supplier of engineering composites for the most of the international plastic processing companies located in the territory of Russia;
  • During the global financial crisis the company was among the few ones whose losses amounted to only 22-23%;
  • The first ARMOVIL® grade was produced (compositions based on polyvinyl chloride).
2010
  • Effective work of all the company’s divisions resulted in exceeding pre-crisis level of the production output;
  • A new promising commercial project was developed: the production of concentrates under ARMOFLEN® name, intended for the packaging and pipe industry;
  • A new line for manufacture of highly filled composite materials was launched at the Saratov site, in Engels, which provided an increase in total production capacity of composite materials by 28%.
2011
  • The company celebrated its 20th anniversary, holding a leadership in the Russian market of engineering plastics, having high scientific and technical potential, going to realize a lot of ambitious plans in the field of production and R&D of polymer composites;
  • The annual output plan of composite materials is expected to reach 60,000 T;
  • The product range of engineering composite materials comprises more than 250 grades intended for a wide spectrum of automotive, engineering, railway, construction, household, electrical and electronic appliances applications, virtually for all industries, where the plastics can be used.
